I have to do it the old fashioned way, due to the family history and what they found last time. This last go-round, however (last month), I was clean as a whistle. Almost prefer the peace of mind, despite the horrible prep work.

Took a bit of a hiatus after we lost Luna to focus on other things and get our new kid, Bucky, fully integrated into the family. He's doing well -still some work to do but it takes a minute to undo some of the trauma on a senior pup.

3/3 The shelter director spent 7 months rehabilitating her and getting her to trust humans again. For 10 years, she's been the heart & soul of our family. She's been here for all of the "boys" from Hondo to Augie and Brisco and now Bucky - and letting her go is breaking our hearts. We love you, Lu.

She's been our sweet baby girl for 10 years now. She was our first rescue from the same shelter where we got Brisco and Bucky. She would have been considered "unadoptable" at other shelters due to her trauma and fear of everything. She was found tied up under a mobile home and VERY pregnant. 2/3

And now for some sad, sad news. Last night, on the same day we brought Bucky home, we took Luna to the vet and found out she had a few large masses in her abdomen and chances of survival even with emergency surgery are low. So we've made the painful decision to say goodbye later this week. 1/3

Say hello to Bucky (formerly known as Lucky). 8yr old German Shepherd/Husky(?) mix according to the shelter.

He's getting adjusted to the new digs - he was mostly left outside the past couple of years, so it might take a minute to get acclimated.

The dogs think he's OK, the cats reserve judgement.

I love when they finally and inevitably reach the "Find Out" phase.

Bull snakes are great - I had a couple as pets when I was a kid in Oregon.

But I have noticed here in CO they're usually colored the same as rattlers (and get way bigger than I remember), so I don't play with them as much these days 😜
