February 22, 2020 A lot of folks have been asking me lately if America has ever been in such a crisis before and, if so, what people in the past did to save democracy.

This is what I had in mind when I made that comment. 2007-2008 was terrible but we had an administration committed to mitigating harm with a “bailout”. We currently have an administration hellbent on creating an economic crisis by destroying all the current norms.

Sure, but mystified is good. It’s an opening, an entry point for engaging with a massive piece of public art. A lot of people will walk away in frustration or indifference. That is part of the intent in the piece, and becomes part of the experience and impact of it.

The same way that all art works - it’s in how it unfolds in you (individually) and in us (collectively) over time. Our understanding is shaped by reflection and dialogue. Meaning and impact are shaped over time. You have the tools to understand the piece by now. What do you do with them?
