Another year of Dream Lab completed! @vierth.bsky.social and I had another fantastic group of folks learning DH for East Asian Studies with us for the past four days. 🙌 Many thanks as always to the @pricelab.bsky.social for supporting us!

Teaching “DH in the Classroom” at DREAM Lab @pricelab.bsky.social was a rewarding experience. Fantastics students, the best collaborator @betovargas.github.io, and friends old and new. We covered a huge range of topics, but here’s a peek at the game we made in the #DHMakes unit.

DH Project Maintenance, Care, and Migration: An Experiment with the Colored Conventions Project

🙌🏽 🙌🏽 to #DreamLab2025 crew who jumped in the deep end w/ me to experiment crowdsourcing the migration of @ccp-org.bsky.social exhibits to out-of-box WordPress template w/ care, curiosity & determination! Completed 6 exhibits in 9 hours (avg 11 pgs/hr) ➕documentation! 🎉

For their history honors thesis, Eug used GIS and other mapping techniques to analyze the Dutch East India Company’s textile trade along the west coast of South Asia. Next up, they will pursue an Economic History MSc (Research) degree at the London School of Economics.

Our very own DH specialist @jdporter.bsky.social will lead the course.

This course will survey the hows and whys of a variety of commonly used approaches to text analysis, including word frequencies, the distributional hypothesis, and natural language processing techniques. No coding experience is required!

Dream Lab presents: “Text Analysis," a #DH workshop hosted at the University of Pennsylvania this May.

Next up, Geoffrey Turnovsky (University of Washington) will present his talk: “Characters, Epistolary Novels, and the Analog History of A.I.”
