a postcard of a boy in bed stairing up at nightmarish turkey, pumpkin pie, and dancing somethings, with the caption "May you Thanksgiving never end in Dreams Like These"
If I could edit I'd have added this image I thought would show up from the Newberry page, which is why I said you could alarm family and friends.

Thanksgiving, 1928 style
Thank you all for reading along!
The Thanksgiving menus at the grand hotels of Hyde Park #Chicago in 1928 and the postcards folks used to send each other. You didn't have to have turkey! (separate link to the Newberry postcard page in replies) open.substack.com/pub/patricia...

There is a post circulating on Bluesky encouraging the moving of a frozen turkey straight into a pot of hot oil. We are combating this misinformation the best way we know how - through the power of dance music.

I think I said where it was in the alt text and forgot in the post. This is between 55th and 56th Streets, along Lake Park in Chicago. Maybe they'll leave the section still standing as it's vertical. Neglect of the tree growth etc. had caused roots to push parts of the wall out.

Photo of dirt, the remains of stone wall, along Lake Park. Leading to the Hyde Park Historical Society cable car builidng
Bye bye stone retaining wall that lasted 100 years. (I think it dates from when the raised tracks were infilled and the viaducts finished in stone).

Drug companies have hired over 500 lobbyists this year to gut the Inflation Reduction Act's drug price negotiation provisions.
They outnumber public interest advocates more than 20 to 1.
We must get money out of politics and end Big Pharma's deadly greed once and for all.

Five corporations control 90% of the US media market.
Airlines merged from 12 major carriers in 1980 to 4 today.
Four giants control 80% of meat processing.
A handful of companies control the pharmaceutical industry.
The evidence of corporate concentration is everywhere.

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.
I will never forget having to edit Jamalβs final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.
He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

One significant way to fix the federal deficit? Dramatically raise the minimum wage across our country. It will cause an increase in tax collections, much less people on federal assistance, and health outcomes will improve causing less reliance on federal health programs.

A line drawing from the Tribune showing Mayor Harrison with a sign that says "who says I'm lazy", top-hat wearing professors carrying the History of Lake Michigan, ladies next to cows kicking lanterns in front of burning cauldrons of fire with two firemen standing next to each one, etc.
Definitely didn't earn a star on the Chicago flag! Here's the illustration of the "fire recreation" fiasco.
