02.03.2026 08:08 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Bright light shines over snow covered peaks, under blue sky painted with broad white clouds. A few trees stand off the sides of tracks made into pretty powdery snow. Another stand of dark evergreen trees cross the line of the horizon.
Today's walk in Iceland
We've got winter! Though I encountered no one else on my walk, lots of footprints - human and canine - were evident.
That light is gorgeous
27.02.2026 13:52 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The ground is now fully white and the mountain in the back looks like it's been drawn in charcoal - white with craggy black/gray ridges.
We've got some accumulation. Snow is still falling.
25.02.2026 17:23 — 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Yes! No measurable snowfall in Reykjavík for 72 days. It's been so weird and dry.
25.02.2026 15:20 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Snow is falling and obscuring the backyard mountain, the old house back there, and the trees that surround the house. The ground is becoming white.
Would you look at that - for the first* time all winter, it's starting to look like winter.
*In the capital area of Reykjavík. There's been lots of snow in other parts of #Iceland.
Platoon
It's devastating.
There was a Kjótsúpudagurinn in Reykjavík with a whole street full of restaurants giving out free samples. But that hasn't happened in the last few years.

It's Sprengidagur, Iceland's Fat Tuesday-like day of eating to excess. I got Kallabakari's version of the ham/bean soup in Akranes.

Golden sunrise in a blue sky reflected in the passenger side mirror of a car driving past fields, a lake and mountains.
Good morning from Iceland

I am giant!
Right? I can have one today and one tomorrow and then I'm done. But there are so many interesting options!
15.02.2026 20:43 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Didn't see that one! We did get the tiramisu with pistachio creme, and the yuzu lemon. Haven't tried the lemon yet; maybe it has raspberry in it?

Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick
The one that makes me scream, she said
The one that makes me laugh, she said
And threw her arms around my neck
Show me how you do it
And I promise you, I promise that
I′ll run away with you
I'll run away with you

My favorite Icelandic holiday - Bolludagur - is tomorrow! We're getting a jumpstart today.

Right? It's wild, and who knows if the ocean will wash the sand back up.

First the river under Skógafoss moved to the wrong place. Now there's no beach at Reynisfjara. Iceland keeps reminding us that it is very young, geologically, and not that settled.

The powerful Skógafoss waterfall crashes over a cliff edge, throwing up massive mist as it hits the river below. Black rocky ground leads up to the falls. Someone in a pale pink coat is crouching to take a photo of a woman wearing a short white dress with arms flung out and head raised to the sun. They both look tiny. A rainbow arches between them.
Sophie's ( @sophiecarr.bsky.social ) photos of Skógafoss yesterday reminded me of my own favorite, a shot of someone taking their shot.
