This makes me smile so much!

Bright light shines over snow covered peaks, under blue sky painted with broad white clouds. A few trees stand off the sides of tracks made into pretty powdery snow. Another stand of dark evergreen trees cross the line of the horizon.

Today's walk in Iceland

We've got winter! Though I encountered no one else on my walk, lots of footprints - human and canine - were evident.

That light is gorgeous

The ground is now fully white and the mountain in the back looks like it's been drawn in charcoal - white with craggy black/gray ridges.

We've got some accumulation. Snow is still falling.

Yes! No measurable snowfall in Reykjavík for 72 days. It's been so weird and dry.

Snow is falling and obscuring the backyard mountain, the old house back there, and the trees that surround the house. The ground is becoming white.

Would you look at that - for the first* time all winter, it's starting to look like winter.

*In the capital area of Reykjavík. There's been lots of snow in other parts of #Iceland.

It's devastating.

There was a Kjótsúpudagurinn in Reykjavík with a whole street full of restaurants giving out free samples. But that hasn't happened in the last few years.

Yes, the tradition is to eat one bowl at a time - until you feel like "bursting"

Right? I can have one today and one tomorrow and then I'm done. But there are so many interesting options!

Didn't see that one! We did get the tiramisu with pistachio creme, and the yuzu lemon. Haven't tried the lemon yet; maybe it has raspberry in it?

First the river under Skógafoss moved to the wrong place. Now there's no beach at Reynisfjara. Iceland keeps reminding us that it is very young, geologically, and not that settled.

The powerful Skógafoss waterfall crashes over a cliff edge, throwing up massive mist as it hits the river below. Black rocky ground leads up to the falls. Yeah, it's tricky to traverse, definitely. But it shows why Icelandic horses developed such sturdiness and surefootedness.
