I just got one of those dreaded phone calls. My best friend of much more than 50 years is gone. He took me to my first Buffett concert. My first running race, the St. John’s Hospital 10K, was with him. So many other moments.

There is a void in my life. And it keeps following me around.

I saw it in real time. I very nearly literally puked. Seriously, the room started to spin. I couldn’t turn it off fast enough.

I took a few breaths and said out loud - Well, that’s going well.

Oh my f’ing gawd.

On Labor Day 2023 occurred one straw too many and my world that was already struggling to stay together, fell apart. I turned to one man’s lyrics. The pieces came together when I heard his rare cover of a James Taylor song. I now have a prominent permanent reminder of a not very temporary feeling.
