It’s something I’m working on through hopefully adoption of RP but I’m in agreement that there are deeper culture issues (which includes allowing repeat bad behavior) that I’m going to do my best to try and tackle. I may be pushing a boulder uphill but I’m gonna try my best.

I'm grateful that the DFL State Central Committee adopted our Statewide Affirmative Action, Outreach, and Inclusion Plan today with 96% of the vote. Thank you to the O&I Committee and Co-Chair Eric Won for helping get this drafted and passed.

Minnesota is stronger because of your work, and I am grateful for all you’ve done to bring government closer to the people.

It’s natural for a large number of our volunteers, activists, and voters to be incredibly upset and hurt after putting in so much time and energy into a process and coming away questioning whether their voices were truly heard. To say people are disappointed right now would be an understatement. It is not lost on me, and I recognize that real and incredibly valid frustration. As we move forward, we as a party need not only a commitment to doing better, but to supporting our local units all across the state as they navigate the hard and difficult work of running caucuses and conventions; work that is done entirely by dedicated volunteers who give their evenings, weekends, and energy to keep our democracy alive. I’ll never be in the business of throwing our volunteers under the bus, and my commitment continues to do this work in true partnership with our local units to ensure they have the support they need.

Here are a few of my own personal thoughts on the big news about the Minneapolis DFL today:

Anti-LGBTQ hate groups spent hundreds of millions of dollars to create create panic around the existence of trans people to undermine ALL civil rights protections. Stop doing their work for them.

It is illegal in Minnesota to discriminate against trans people. Period, full stop. That includes in bathrooms. Treating people’s ability to use public spaces as a “social issue” continues to bandy about trans people’s existence as a political issue and it is gross. And dangerous.

Trans rights are human rights, not “social issues.” To insist that trans people must bear the brunt of cis people’s discomfort is not in the same universe as DFL values.

It’s officially Father’s Day, and while I thought I would be ecstatic for my first one as a dad, like many Minnesotans and Americans, I find myself in a deep stage of mourning and grief. I think about what the Hortman and Hoffman families are going through, and then when I turn fo look at my daughter, it’s hard not to cry. I don’t know if I have a specific point, but if there is a family member or friend you’ve had a falling out with and have been hesitant to reach out to, consider giving them a call today. Remember to be kind to yourself and to others. We have to be a light in a world that feels so incredibly dark.

Grateful for all those who showed up and engaged in some really thoughtful conversations tonight.
