Using XDP for Egress Traffic XDP only works for ingress. We found a loophole that lets it work for egress. Here's how we did the impossible.

An eBPF Loophole: Using XDP for Egress Traffic

XDP is Linux's fastest packet processor but only handles incoming traffic. We found a loophole in how the kernel determines packet direction to make it work for outgoing traffic too!

one thing i love about systems programming is that when you get low level enough, things are extremely simple, and from there, you can build things beyond anyone's imagination

Howdy @d-philla.bsky.social ! πŸ‘ Such a great talk from wasm/io I just wathced over on YT; quick Q...

I'm imagining sandboxing runtimes in here (go / jvm), what is the ceiling? At first, something alpine:latest - then full go server, then full nodejs serverless or web servers.

24.04.2025 11:00 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

no, not crazy at all, I love all of it! honestly, if the details can be worked out, there's a lot of really interesting things possible, not least of which all the things you mentioned :)

24.04.2025 23:59 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

that's an excellent question! may be a little too soon to tell, but obviously a lot of interesting gains to be made on the approach to orchestrating something like this, that can run across more heterogeneous environments

Just watched your talk. If Boxer is a kind of Docker, and Marcotte is the Linux, what would be the Kubernetes of this?
