I commented that the last panto I had seen had Bernard Cribbins and Sam Kelly in it and the following week my friend brought me this. The poster from that very panto back in 1988!!

One strange thing about the BBC/Trump row is that the programme in question was actually made by an independent production company. Yes, the BBC producers and Panorama’s editor should have checked everything before it was broadcast. But…

"SERMON IX THE LOVE OF MERCY"
"Justice and honesty give every man his own; but mercy openeth those treasuries which justice might lock up, and taketh from us that which is legally ours, maketh others gatherers with us and partakers of our basket, and bringeth them under our own vine and fig-tree."

ANTHONY FARINDON (1598-1658) "SERMON IX THE LOVE OF MERCY" "Justice and honesty give every man his own; but mercy openeth those treasuries which justice might lock up, and taketh from us that which is legally ours, maketh others gatherers with us and partakers of our basket, and bringeth them under our own vine and fig-tree."

Anthony Farindon, #Anglican, says that justice gives every person their own, but ”locks up” goods. Mercy opens up these treasuries, and make others the beneficiaries of our gathering, or co-gatherers with us.

Do we instead celebrate miserliness?

Do you have any co-gatherers?

FedEx just emailed me to say they have exhausted all their efforts at finding my brand new computer they incorrectly delivered and they have just.... closed the ticket. So what exactly does a person do now? I paid cash for a computer and I'm just.. not going to get it? I'm losing my mind

Help to get a nationally-important monograph printed. A pledge of Β£34 will get you a print copy of the Rhynie book + UK shipping if the full Β£10k is raised. A bargain price for what will be a very detailed account of this major Pictish site and its environs. (The ebook will be free.)

The story of the vote in the USA last night is that the Democrats have an amazing opportunity to retake the center ground of US politics and have a strong working majority--while forcing the GOP to the far right. If the Dems do not do this, they have only themselves to blame.

[Scene is the entrance cabin to a NATIONAL TRUST PROPERTY AND GARDENS]

 1
NATIONAL TRUST EMPLOYEE [inside cabin]:

Hello there

2
[A young family - two parents two kids - have arrived at the front desk].

DAD:

Hi - do you have an activity trail, for the kids?

3
NT EMPLOYEE:

Of course – you’re just in time for the Autumn Gammon Trail!

4
MUM:
That sounds fun, doesn’t it kids?

5
NT EMPLOYEE [handing an activity sheet and pencils to the kids]:

Every autumn, the Reform Trust gammons flock back to the National Trust for the AGM. Just follow the trail round the grounds, and see how many you can spot!

6
NT EMPLOYEE [hearing something in the gardens]:

Listen - that's their call

[Calls emanating from the landscape]:

tut-tut
woke-woke

7
NT EMPLOYEE [showing the family an apparently empty fenced enclosure with some bushes in]:

They are extremely sensitive and fragile...
But you can bring them out of hiding if you put a little sign down mentioning slavery.

8
KIDS [pointing]:
There they are!

[Some little red faced PEOPLE wearing Barbour jackets and gilets emerge cautiously from the bushes. They are creeping towards a TINY SIGN in the middle of the enclosure].

[Little people noises]:
woke-woke
tut-tut
woke-woke

9
[Close-up of the TINY SIGN - we can read that it says]:

Slavery had a bit to do with building this massive house.

[Noises from the little people again as they inspect the tiny sign]:

tut-tut
woke-woke

10
MUM [pointing]:
What's that one doing there?

NT EMPLOYEE:
Oh, that's so sweet…

11
[We see that one of the people is sat on a rock, with a little laptop open on a tree stump, and they are furiously typing away].

NT EMPLOYEE:
I think he's writing a column for the Daily Telegraph…

12
[We see close up to the little person’s screen, it is a word document reading]:

Are National Trust scones secretly WOKE?

[ends]

If you're a National Trust member, it's that time of year again: Midnight tonight is the deadline. It's a shame people have to keep doing this to keep a toehold on historical truth in this country, but here we are. Voting link: www.nationaltrust.org.uk/who-we-are/a...

Badenoch says hacking into Harriet Harman's website 17 years ago 'not the same' as Reeves breaking law The Conservative leader previously admitted to breaking into Baroness Harman's website, where she wrote pro-Conservative lines as if she was the Labour peer.

Breaking News: Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch trying to suggest some law breaking for national leaders is acceptable... when it was involves herself, but unacceptable if it involves a member of an alternative political party.
Hypocracy!

In Trump’s world, telling the truth is a crime and deserves punishment. Reagan was a committed free trader and the Canadian summary of the speech was spot on.
