Break to build: fracture as a unifying morphogenetic strategy Summary: This Review presents mechanical fracture as a unifying morphogenetic strategy and describes how developmental systems actively exploit mechanical fracture to drive morphogenesis, reproduction...

Our latest with @torres-sanchez.bsky.social journals.biologists.com/dev/article-...
Breaking isn’t always a bad thing! Think of birth, seed release...
We highlight how living tissue not only tolerates fractures but actively fracture to grow, shape, reproduce, or adapt – across species and scales.

I watched much of Ian Chapman's (Head of @ukri.org) appearance this morning at @ukparliament.parliament.uk Science, Innovation and Technology Committee..

A few points and new information that bioscientists may find interesting...

Next, in my miniseries on early researchers using zebrafish is Jane M. Oppenheimer, fish embryologist and science historian par excellence. (True, I’m cheating here a bit, but if I mentioned Hellen Battle in the previous bluetorial, it is fair to mention Oppenheimer here.) (1/4)

The "Hard Truth" about how hard it is to publish in Development. We wrote this to really drive the point that we are a discerning community journal, and we really want to publish your best developmental and stem cell biology contributions.

Adam was wonderful and warm, exceptional and enthusiastic, visionary and inspirational. Conversations with Adam made you think differently, made you question assumptions and opened you to new ideas and ways of doing things – a brilliant teacher to his students, friends, kids and to all of us.

This is tough. Adam Kampff was one of the most brilliant people that I have had the privilege to know. He was a wonderful and generous friend and colleague, a remarkable teacher and a visionary who inspired hundreds of others. He was a shining example to us all, and we will miss him very much.

Ancient wolves on remote Baltic Sea island reveal link to prehistoric humans Cave discovery of wolf remains tells a tale of an unexpected relationship with humans.

Researchers discovered early signs of domestication by analysing the remains of two wolves who lived in modern-day Sweden 3-5,000 years ago.
