I started Sunday run day and at it was so beautiful with the clouds. I was way too hot and cursing myself for putting on leggings and my warmer rain jacket. I was about midway through as it started graupeling heavily. I caught the rainbow as I waited under a tree. I was cold and wet at the finish

This morning I awoke in one of those fantastic moods with no aches and just a deep feeling of contentment. I had a lazy morning before bringing the recycling to the transfer station. On the way home stopped at the station and got all my French fingerlings cleaned and laud out to dry, onward!

More manure gathering for the gardens today. Going to put some on the rose crowns and turn the last veg garden in along with the seaweed I put down weeks ago. The last of the garlic will get planted today and I’ll finish the last amend and turnover in my garden. Almost settled in for the winter.

Spun out the last frames of honey from Daffodil hive. I also got about half my French fingerling potatoes scrubbed and ready for processing. Needed to get some exercise in I got a solid six reps in on the bluff stairs. Checked on the persimmons but they are not ripe yet, full on orange though.

First snow flurries today here on the island. The clouds were dramatic all day scudding about in bruised overtones. To cap off the atmospheric delights the Aurora made an appearance with shooting stars cascading over the emerald northern horizon. I winterized Ophelias house with a solid floor.

Been trying to use up the gluttony of sweet peppers that I’ve been harvesting. I made a chicken fried rice but forgot to pick up the snow peas. Just some extra peppers to color things up. Sunday is run day and although there wasn’t much running I did get 6 miles in.

I agree, I would rather wake up in the dark, to be frank. I don’t like waking up to full daylight feeling like I’ve wasted the hour before my alarm.

I was supposed to be working on the rabbit run today. The weather, however, decided I needed a different task list. It snapped off one of my gate posts at the ground. After errands of the dump, chicken sitting, and a stop at the lumberyard I got the post in. I was running a fever, but it’s done.

Looks like another week of stormy weather with rain this afternoon ruining my gardening plans. So I decided to make the first soup of the fall season while I cleaned. Chicken noodle with alliums and herbs from the gardens. Going to have to put rocks in my pockets to garden the next few days.

Sunday is run day. It was a slow and steady five and a half miles. I had to remember to start earlier with the time change. Not keen on the whole thing as I would rather have the extra daylight in the afternoon. The winterberry was vibrant against the darkening skies.

It’s been a week of wanders, good company, and stormy weather. I’ve been working on my Aran sweater and I’m determined to finish the body this winter. The sun came out today amidst the stormy clouds for my birthday. 43 today and I’ll celebrate by doing a back to back workout weekend.

I’ve had company out and we were trying to enjoy the nicer weather before this stormy 5 days. Got out for a couple beautiful walks before this week long stretch of wind and rain sets on. Mostly just being pummeled by salt laden ocean air as the waves churn.

I’ve been slowly getting back into working out. Yesterday was a light weight session and today was six bluff stair reps. Nature rewarded me by giving me a gorgeous view while I got my heart rate up. I hope to squeeze a run in next week for my birthday but we’ll see.

Not much going on today. I had to put pants on finally with the drop in the temperature. I took the time to put a feeder into one of my splits in the apiary. The hive does not have enough honey to make it through the winter as is. After it was a lightweight workout to get the blood pumping.

As fall encompasses the season I switch to hot mint tea to get my Liters in for the day. I grow a hard neck variety of garlic called Music for its large cloves. I only planted 8 French Fingerling potatoes but they clearly were over producers. I pulled the first frames of honey, now to spin.

The storm brought in the bounty of the ocean. I went with my pitchfork and collected it for the garden. I had already put down a layer of horse manure and so the seaweed went on top and got turned in. All the beds are done but one which still has bell peppers ripening.

With stormy cool weather comes the first roasting of the season. I made it back to the island on the last plane Sunday morning. Checked on the persimmons and harvested some sweet peppers. Cleaned the house in between watching a good movie and bouts of just relaxing. Time to split seed garlic.

Day 8, the last day but not the shortest. The trail was smooth and I finally ran into another hiker. Not only that, but they were headed the sane way and to my stop. We hiked along together the rest of the day and it made the miles fly by. Here is to you Graylocks for making the last day great.

Day 7, it was a chilly night and a large pot of hot coffee started me off right. I took a late start as I was doing short miles. The cool air was pleasant to hike in and made the miles go by. I ended up at Corrado pizzeria and had a whole pizza for dinner. Hiker hunger hit hard and with fury.

Day 6 and a change of the weather made the trail pleasant. With the colder temps the hunt for water became less dire. The trail was just cake the first 8 miles, unfortunately the last 4 got rough. I made it to a shelter with a familiar name on it. I set up my tent for an extra layer of warmth.

Day 5 continues over the Hudson river on bear bridge. Stopped at a market a mile before the monastery and replenished my glucose levels and got a hot meal. Trudged over to the monastery ball field and set up my tent. A cold shower never felt so good. Clean, full, and in the quiet I slept content.

Day 5 and it was over the big climb of the week Bear mountain. It was a late start with it raining until about nine and I started out while it was still going. I had a lot of miles to cover to make it to the monastery for the night, and a shower! The leaves were really showing off their beauty.

Day 4 was a long day but I got into the swing of things. It was slightly cooler out with a storm front coming in that night. It definitely put me in a better mood and got me up to West Mountain Shelter. Saw a bear cub and a rattlesnake on the way thankfully we were headed in opposite directions.

Day 3, It was another scorcher with temps in the mid to upper 80s. With no water in sight I didn’t make it to Fingerboard. Out of water and trying to make it up the last incline before the pond I started experiencing heat stroke. Called it a night at Island pond and set up my tent in defeat.
