Last night I got to see one of my favorite annual short films lineup @finalgirlsberlin.bsky.social at the @hollywoodtheatre.org! This year’s films included The Blue Diamond with a delightful performance by @barbaracrampton.bsky.social and SHÉ (SNAKE) by animator/director Renee Zhan that floored me!

There used to be bookstores, vintage stores, music stores, clothing exchanges, art galleries, and endless restaurants and bars. They replaced our entire queer district with $300-jean shops, and our food carts with expensive hotels and condos.

As a lifelong Portlander who has mostly lived downtown, I’m so tired of the lack of people downtown being blamed by homelessness, protests, etc when it really was the combination of the Portland Business Alliance, gentrification, and online sales that pushed all culture from downtown.

Luz (2018) Dir. Tilman Singer- Interesting take on possession films, it achieves solid scares using setting, liminal space, and sound to craft an off-kilter atmosphere. A cab driver questioned after an accident becomes entangled in a possession case. Hypnotic, unnerving, and highly effective.🎞️📽️🎬
