I’m so happy that I got to see Kurosawa’s new movie Cloud on the big screen last night. It felt very ‘90s mystery thriller to me and I loved it! What I didn’t love was half of the audience laughing their way through the movie?!

In Portland, an older man in full cyclist gear laughed at the trigger warning before The Nightingale, then preceded to gasp like Helena Markos throughout the entire film. That man could not get air until the credits rolled.

I think the sepia toned painting really evokes the depression-era rural American vibe. There’s a depth to the image combined with the title that would pull me in.

GIRLS NITE OUT remains another all-time favorite of mine. Great cast of characters, unusual villain, and Rutanya Alda is GREAT. The final act of this film is still by far one of my favorites along with its reveal.

At the video store, we really get to see what films resonate with people past the initial festival and marketing hype. Some highly marketed movies with lesser consideration to the craftsmanship, go stagnant after release. Whereas films like Annihilation are still getting rented weekly!
