the cost of living is increasing with a cartoon character holding a shield ALT: the cost of living is increasing with a cartoon character holding a shield

The cost-of-living crisis isn’t accidental. It’s fuelled by corporations hiking prices far beyond their actual costs. Record profits soar while wages stall and families struggle. This isn’t just inflation. It’s corporate greed and price-gouging hitting people where it hurts most. #auspol #aupol

AI isn’t perfect, but it can sort truth from rubbish when it’s trained on reliable data and used responsibly. The real problem isn’t “AI can’t think,” it’s the ocean of disinformation we humans keep pumping out. Managed well, AI can help us fight it rather than make things worse.

There isn’t one unified expert view on youth safety. Some support age limits, others argue that platforms block the data needed for better regulation. You can debate the policy, but calling it “pure politics” ignores the bigger issue: govts are acting because social media companies won’t.

That’s definitely frustrating — especially when it’s your own well-documented work. AI doesn’t “know” things the way we do. It just predicts patterns, and sometimes it completely whiffs it. Not excusing the bad answers, just saying it’s far from perfect and shouldn’t be treated like an oracle.

The Aus Gov can’t force social media giants to rewrite their algorithms — they’re global companies beyond Canberra’s reach. That’s why an under-16 ban becomes the only lever the government can pull. Not perfect, but it’s the one move they can enforce.

I agree that morality should guide decisions, especially where duty of care is concerned. My point wasn’t arguing against that — I was simply explaining why governments act the way they do when they’re tied to gambling revenue. Describing the incentive structure isn’t the same as endorsing it.

This is the best news ever for the New England electorate. If he gets in the Senate he will, like all the other fringe party lunatics, be another politician with no real power to do anything other than make a lot of noise about nothing.

08.12.2025 02:36 — 👍 4    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I wasn’t defending the behaviour or saying it’s “justified” — only explaining why it happens regardless of who’s in government. When major leagues and governments rely on gambling revenue, the incentives shape the decisions. That’s an observation about the system, not a moral endorsement of it.

It would be no different if we had a Coalition government in power. So many big players (sporting leagues) are involved with the gambling industry, and it's also a source of government revenue. So I can understand why the ALP government is doing what it's doing. It's all about the money.

Random thought: The only thing I wonder about with the Beatles up to 1964-5 is why they bowed after every song. That always seemed a little odd to me, as I have never seen any other artist or band do that. But in their old concert footage, they always bow after every song. #weird #beatles

That wasn't a heavy heart, he just ate Chicken Masala for lunch. Barnaby couldn't give a flying fig about anyone but himself.

So beetrooter is going to join One Nation today. I can't really think of any politician who has done this successfully, as it eventually spells the end of their political career. In Barnaby's case though, the end of his politcal career would be a good thing. #auspol #aupol

I think Scott Morrison started the recent rapid decline of the Liberal Party, but Dutton certainly finished the job.

Billionaire James Packer taunts Dan Andrews and regulators for burning down casinos Billionaire James Packer has slammed the former Victorian premier and the head of the NSW gambling regulator for trying to bankrupt the casino industry, in a wide-ranging interview.

Packer was a crook, that's why he was nearly ruined. Had nothing to do with Dan Andrews, who was just doing what he was elected to do, clean up illegal casino practices at Crown. #auspol #aupol #vicpol

There is no way that an underage girl (or boy) is mature enough to consent to sex with an adult. They have to be groomed, coerced, and forced into it. This is what Epstein did with vulnerable young girls. Allegations that Trump raped these girls as well should not be ignored. #auspol

Let me add. When I say "allegedly had sex with them," what I really mean is, "allegedly raped them."

'I know how dirty Donald is': What Jeffrey Epstein had to say about Trump A trove of Jeffrey Epstein emails released this week reveals his preoccupation with US President Donald Trump in the years before Epstein's death.

When you have #Epstein survivors claiming that #Trump allegedly had sex with them as underage girls, I find the media reporting about this sometimes baffling. How long can some outlets keep sitting on the fence about this? #aupol #auspol #EpsteinList #BelieveTheVictims

Geelong midfielder set for return after rape case dropped Lawyers for Geelong AFL player Tanner Bruhn say "false allegations" were made against him and a friend, telling the media the pair have been vindicated in court.

It's hard enough for real victims of rape to get a fair shake in the legal system as it is, but when women falsely accuse men of rape, it makes a mockery of real rape victims. There are no winners here. #auspol #aupol
