In the 1800s, a world renown artist visited California by stagecoach to sell some of her pieces.

She made an unexpected side-trip to a town whose library bought 3 of her works.

These works remain in this town today, still owned by the library, and housed in the main branch.

2. Beckwourth: Named after the prolific frontiersman, James Beckwourth.

Among other things, he was the first Westerner to discover a mountain pass into Cali for settlers, the Beckwourth Pass, located a little north-west of Reno on present-day Interstate 70.
