My cousin misgendering my kid kind of breaks my heart. We don’t have much of a relationship because different coasts and family issues, but we’re friendly. See each other once a year/briefly talk on insta folk. But we had kids at the same time and we talked for a bit. Just kinda sucks.

My kid was calling the daddy doll “grammie” and I started to correct them, but I stopped myself and just said “this is your pretend play. The doll is whoever you say it is.” My kid is 2.5 and doesn’t need my throwing up artificial barriers to enjoying existence any sooner than is necessary.

The single best thing I’ve done since my well before my kid was born was work on finding all episodes of Sesame Street, reading rainbow, and Mr Rogers for my local media server. We don’t watch much tv, but for now, the classics work well!
