I’ve been saying this for a long time but fandom becoming a mainstream thing was a mistake. Yeah, I’ve laughed at a viral reel referencing ao3 unsafe… at the same time its content like that and the seeking of virality that got us to a point where people don’t understand boundaries anymore.

I've never been good at following trends and jumping on what's popular, lol

I'd throw the ideas out as a poll or something, but I know I'll just pick what I want regardless of any poll answers and it's certain I'll prefer the idea that loses 😅

I have two long fics planned out and I don't know which one to go with. One is an idea I've been playing around with for 6 months and the other hit me last week. Maybe I'll try writing the first chapter of each and see which grabs me more

From r/AO3 Based on that "Worst possible AO3 features" post, here's the new AO3 for you guys (suitable for all your needs) It's ao3, but there are banners ads for gambling, a "reveal author's location" button, a photo of the author, a "verify your age" button next to the rating, "upgrade to premium to see characters", no tags, a star rating, a button that says "gift this fic a trophy for an algorithm boost", an ad for women in your area looking for love, payment buttons, and you can't read the fic because it says "you have reached your reading limit for the day".

(I haven't messed with css since the days of Geocities and think I need to lie down now)

So, chapters with hyperlinks will look neater, but will possibly take longer to post because of all of the hyperlinks

They do also have the problem of having chapter numbers at the top of the page, which is unnecessary for this, but not as annoying to me as scrollbars and blank spaces

It puts each chapter/scene/choice into its own "text box", with a scrollbar, so you have two vertical scrollbars on the page. That's unwieldy with long text and especially on mobile, IMO

You can change the text box height to eliminate scroll bars, but then shorter chapters have chunks of space

Working from home today, so I've been messing with the CYOA script on AO3 more, and I don't think I like it, lol. It's super clever and perfect for shorter text, but I think my fic is too long for it. A couple of choices/scenes are nearly 2000 words long

Larry has been in enough court rooms that he should have learned something by now, surely? And he has good friends that might help
