Madeline Odent is the subject of a slide of a presentation in a lecture theatre. Lots of people are watching the presentation, and the automatic captions from the presenter note that Madeline does "saving buildings from falling down I think"

once again profoundly exhausted by the framing of autism, and disability in general, as something to fight against, prevent, and scare people about. it is extremely objectifying

I randomly had the urge to re-read my MA dissertation tonight. Firstly, how on earth did I write that? Secondly, it occurred to me that due to the death of Twitter, my research can literally never be replicated.

Anyway, did you know that a meme is a unit of cultural transmission?

We're 300 followers away from 70,000. 300 more would be really nice. But you know what would be even better? 300 plus 30,000.

My favorite linguist Jon Henner (who followed me on here before he passed!) changed my perspective a lot. If communication is happening, who cares how it's presented? β€œHow you language is beautiful. Don't let anyone tell you your language is wrong. Your languaging is the story of your life.”

We need to teach people the difference between being uncomfortable and being unsafe. Because the discomfort of the safest people is endangering the most vulnerable, all day every day.

I've spent the past few weeks wanting to go and see the dino film, but the captioned showings around me have always fallen on days and times I can't do.

I'll be renting it as a digital release in a few weeks and having a lil watch party. I hate that I can't just go and see it like everyone else.

The most easily accessible cinema to me has turned into a Vue, meaning I am treated to one captioned showing per week.

And just to be clear, I don't mean per film. I mean one captioned showing per week full stop.

Hey, just wanted to come and say thank you for this advice! I had mine this morning and I wore a long dress and slides to my appointment, and it made the whole process so much easier. The nurse even commented to say how prepared I was! I was in and out in five mins ❀️

I've had to ask for someone to repeat announcements on trains too many times for me to doubt why I deserve the discount.

Train travel is also incredibly stressful for deaf people. Last minute platform changes announced on a loudspeaker? Not knowing what is happening as everyone starts running? Genuinely awful.

I couldn't believe it when I found out either! One of the reasons I'll never go private for my HAs as the 'proof' (unless it's changed) is your NHS battery book

ChatGPT is down but The Museum of English Rural Life still stands, proving once again that Silicon Valley cannot compete with the history of rural England and its people.
