I think any similarities are superficial at best. Unlike then, the players today have a de facto monopoly on the data pipelines and the data itself. IMO, what they're after now is absolute control over how that data is managed. AI is a transfer of knowledge from humanity to the machines.

The only way their gamble works is if their LLMs are merged with the functions of the State. There is no commercial application of the technology that can possibly yield a return of their investement.

Argentina has some of the world's largest lithium reserves and pegs their currency to the Dollar. The war on Venezuela has been in the works since the first Trump term, because they are a vital oil producer and if Maduro ever decided to price it in anything other than dollars, the U.S. is cooked.
