Toys is the true definition of a cinematic one-off, the once in a lifetime folly every director has in them that they hope to make after one big success. After Levinson struck it big with Good Morning Vietnam and Rain Man, he got his chance. Toys is the sort of project no sane studio would touch.

Paramount were absolutely determined to get Warner Bros. Even if that meant buying Netflix had they won. Even Universal knew when to give up.

Victor Lewis-Smith told me when he was a young producer on Radio 4 in the 80s, the BBC ordered him to wipe every 3 out of 4 Start The Week and Midweek episodes that he produced. But thankfully for us, he failed to do this and he told me he had the masters, including a wiped Kenneth Williams episode!

You can see why I visit it a lot. There's a lovely cafe on Grainger Street called the Flower Cafe where Grainger Street is.

I really like that, there's almost a touch of Robert Crumb about it.
