Our work is at the intersection of neuroscience and AI, and we aim to understand how the brain's densely connected recurrent networks operate. π§ͺ
*** Come join us !! We are recruiting !! ***
How does the brain generate beliefs that go beyond direct experience? How do these mechanisms go awry in psychosis?
The Barron lab tinyurl.com/bdf4drjf @MRCBNDU @NDCNOxford are recruiting a new postdoc tinyurl.com/ut4vbwt4 to work in mouse models
Weβre hiring a postdoc with slice patch-clamp expertise to study head direction circuits and plasticity during spatial learning. Ideal for a neurophysiologist excited to combine ex vivo and in vivo approaches. Come join us in beautiful Cambridge! ππ§π§

17.03.2025 01:35 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0We believe that these findings advance a new framework to explain how the hippocampus achieves rapid generalization while also preserving the specificity of individual experiences. Check out the preprint for many more details:

We show that place cell representational drift and remapping are not random at the population level and supported by dedicated circuit mechanisms. This enabled the generalization of task variables (task structure, choice, time) across environments.
17.03.2025 01:35 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We found that the hippocampus supports rapid generalization in mice by generating disentangled memory representations, where different aspects of experience are encoded independently. These low-dimensional population dynamics evolved with learning.
17.03.2025 01:35 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Intelligent behavior involves generalizing from experience and applying prior knowledge to new situations. Traditional models attribute this to gradual learning in the cortex. However, such a slow process can't account for animalsβ rapid generalization from limited experience
17.03.2025 01:35 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Excited to share our latest story! We found disentangled memory representations in the hippocampus that generalized across time and environments, despite the seemingly random drift and remapping of single cells. This code enabled the transfer of prior knowledge to solve new tasks
