As a Californian, I am outraged to see how my Senator was treated earlier today. @SenAlexPadilla, thank you for standing up for immigrant Californians today and every day. Millions of us stand with you. 🫶

Justice should not be afforded only to some and without a full and fair day in court. We need a process and SCOTUS must reject the government’s emergency request for a stay that would lead to mass deportation and chaos.

Read this thoughtful deep dive by @steve_vladeck. The stakes are high. These are attacks on tax-paying immigrants who have been in the States for years with the government's explicit permission.

This isn’t the 1st time they have tried to skip over the lower courts. DOJ has requested SCOTUS halt a lower court’s decision 14 times in 16 weeks. In comparison, under both Bush & both Obama administrations (a total of 16 years), we have seen only 8 such requests to SCOTUS.

These cases have MAJOR consequences for our country & shouldn’t be decided on a whim. Deporting almost a million people overnight will lead to chaos. An estimated 500,000 people are involved in our humanitarian parole case alone. supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/24...

Something to keep your eye on after the birthright citizenship arguments: 2 other cases before SCOTUS- 1 involving humanitarian parole & another involving TPS- where the govt is asking SCOTUS to let it deport up to 1 million people w/o going through the proper legal process. 🧵

🎉BREAKING: We won! The judge just officially stayed (blocked) the federal notice that was set to end humanitarian parole for Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela on April 24th. The court also granted us class certification. Stay tuned for more details on what this ruling means!

🔊🚨UPDATE on #humanitarianparole: JAC + @humanrights1st.bsky.social just had our 2nd hearing this week in Boston in Svitlana Doe v. Noem + the judge indicated that she will rule soon to stay (block) the revocation of parole. It was a packed courthouse w/ many impacted members in attendance.🧵⤵️

Hi from Boston! JAC and @humanrightsfirst.org were here today arguing in Svitlana Doe v. Noem to protect and preserve humanitarian parole processes from the Trump Admin’s efforts to terminate them.

Updates from the courtroom are below! (1/6)

To say that I am honored to be part of the legal team with @ImmDef & @AmicaCenter is a true understatement. These 2 orgs, and the 9 other plaintiffs orgs who represent immigrant kids day in and day out are the heroes of the story. They ensure no kid stands alone in court.

This is good news – for now. But this shouldn’t be controversial. Kids should be treated like kids, and the government shouldn’t fight us on that.

That’s why we took the extraordinary step of asking the court for a Temporary Restraining Order. The federal district court asked tough questions of both sides, and we ultimately prevailed.

Trump unilaterally cut off this funding for lawyers even though he can’t do that according to our laws. As a result, legal service providers faced having to lose staff and leave kids to fend for themselves.

Congress has made sure that those kids do not have to stand alone. The TVPRA provides a mandate and Congress provided money for lawyers, all of whom have developed the expertise necessary to treat kids like kids and help them navigate an often cruel and always confusing system.

Imagine this: you’re a kid who came to the United States without a caretaker or loved one. Sometimes you’re brought in someone else’s arms, sometimes you’ve walked here on your own two feet. You’re alone and don’t have the words to describe what you left behind and why.

I stood up in court today and explained why little kids shouldn’t face a deportation system alone, while the federal government tried to block me at every turn. Here’s why this win matters: 🧵

I’ll be tweeting here from Federal District Court in San Francisco as Judge Chen hears arguments in the case of National TPS Alliance v Noem which seeks to prevent Trump admin from de-documenting Venezuelans and Haitians w/ TPS.

Trump Confirms Plans to Use the Military to Assist in Mass Deportations Mr. Trump’s top immigration policy adviser has discussed using military assets to build detention centers and support civilian immigration agents.

My take: “Trump’s dystopian fantasies should send a chill down everyone’s spine. Not only is what he is describing in all likelihood illegal, this move would be the exact opposite of the legacy of service in which my family members were proud to participate.”

Today, TX & the other states suing to end DACA asked for until July 14 to respond to these recent filings on the SCOTUS standing cases. This likely means the Court will wait to get that July 14 filing before ruling on the case. But that does not tell us WHEN the court will rule.

Some of those motions were notices of supplemental authority filed by the Intervenors (DACA recipients and NJ) and the U.S. on what 2 recent SCOTUS cases on standing meant for the DACA case. Standing is the legal requirement of what plaintiffs need to show to bring a lawsuit.

Just a little Friday recap of some of the latest filings in the #DACA case before Judge Hanen as I have seen some misinformation going around. Yesterday, the court granted several motions the parties had filed. The court did not require any new briefing.
