#12: Hollow Knight! It took me like.. 3 attempts to actually breach the surface and dive into that game. But when I did, it GOT-got me. 112% on the first game - just missing the fifth pantheon, and 100% on Silksong the month it came out - now waiting for the DLC to up that number.

It's just peak.

The physics simulation is really doing good work, and it's weirdly satisfying to chart a course for a random interesting-looking star system, and just actually go there.

Also the first time you explore a system with a black hole or neutron star in it, so eerie. So good.

#11: Elite Dangerous! At this point its really just a Space Flight sim to me. It's not as snappy as Freelancer, or as open as No Man's Sky, or has a story like a Mass Effect.

But the sound- and visual designs are impeccable, and I keep reinstalling just to fly for an hour or two.

#10: Slay the Spire! Genius mix of mechanics, just incredibly. I'm not very good at it, but that sign won't stop me (because I can't read)!!

Looking much forward to Slay the Spire II in a bit. 🙏

#9: Project Nomads! One of the best game ideas nobody I know has heard of. A little bit of basebuilding strategy goodness on post-apocalypse floating islands with the different Admiral characters and their abilities, running around on the Island you're building up. Banging Story mode, too!!

#8: Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy!

Just a really fun Star Wars game with good force customization, different fighting styles, a decent story, overall just that pure fantasy. One of my all-time games!

Supposedly really fun in Multiplayer too, but it was dead by the time I was old enough lmao

Side note, as a bored early Teen in class, I used to draw up castle layouts specifically to the properties of Stronghold buildings and concepts.

Useless for any actual castle, but hey, in another time I could've been designing banger castles for some minor Lord.

#6: Stronghold & Stronghold Crusader, for different reasons! Crusader is the better game, with better balancing, more variety and depth. But the original Stronghold, its Soundtrack and characters just give me a nostalgia that I keep coming back to. It more of a castle builder to me than competitive.

#5: Kingdom under Fire: Heroes! It's not necessarily a good game, but one I played for hours on end on my old X Box.

Also my first contact with commanding an army in game but also playing and fighting as the commander in combat. Good times those were..

#4: Subnautica! There's almost nothing new I can say about the game, but it's just SO good. The pure dread it can instill in you, but also the really good pacing for progression and how characters that never appear by the time of the game get so much flavour - also oceans are just really fascinating

#2 and #3 will be two dead games i miss a lot:
Battlerite and Evolve
Battlerite was all the fun of MOBA Combat without any of the laning or time fodder, sadly died a few years ago.

Evolve, one of my favorite asymmetric multiplayer games. Playing the aliens (but also the crew) felt so amazing.

#1: Final Fantasy XVI. Incredible memories, some of the most hype fights and the acting, oh the incredible acting!! Ben Starr the absolute legend that you are.
