In this lecture, Eduardo Neves will present how in recent years this view has been challenged by archaeological research demonstrating that the Amazon was densely inhabited in the past and that its Indigenous peoples modified nature, contradicting older environmental determinist hypotheses. (2/4)

Interdisciplinarity and intergenerational collaboration were noted as the Centre's particular strengths. Mecila's current funding phase ends in March. To assess the project's achievements, an evaluation was held this week with representatives from the BMFTR, the DLR, and invited expert professors.
