The first roundtable of the day – “Early Career Perspectives” – brought together Ana Maria Fonseca de Almeida (UNICAMP), Anja Grecko Lorenz (DWIH São Paulo), and Fernando Baldraia (Companhia das Letras, Former Mecila Fellow), with moderation by Moacyr Neves (University of São Paulo, Mecila PI).
On the final day, Eduardo Neves (Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, University of São Paulo) delivered the keynote lecture “The Social Construction of Nature by Indigenous Peoples of the Amazon,” —challenging the idea that they are “without history.”

Márcia Araújo, assistente social e militante do Movimento Sem-Teto do Centro (MTSC), nos guiou por uma visita pelos diversos espaços.

In this lecture, Eduardo Neves will present how in recent years this view has been challenged by archaeological research demonstrating that the Amazon was densely inhabited in the past and that its Indigenous peoples modified nature, contradicting older environmental determinist hypotheses. (2/4)

In the 19th and 20th centuries, the Amazon region was viewed as a peripheral area within the context of ancient South American history. This perspective has underpinned public policies based on the premise that this vast region was always sparsely populated due to environmental limitations. (1/4)

To assess the project's achievements, an evaluation was held this week with representatives from the BMFTR, the DLR, and invited expert professors.
