So annoying when states use plentiful local resources to help insulate themselves from economic shocks brought on by, say, variable tariff policies or unexpected wars

Yes, this is correct. They built an offshore windfarm off the coast of Scotland where it was visible from his golf course and he Very Much Objected.

Honestly until you made this correction I had never noticed that although b and d famously mirror one another, b and D face the same way. It makes abDominal look slightly weird 😂

Drawing challenge - one drawing a day for every day in February. Mostly this is a Facebook challenge but I thought I'd share my final works here too.

He might be predicting Labour's demise as a party of any relevance sometime in the next six months or so?

Very weird for Scots and Northern Irish to hear right-wingers going on about sectarianism by the way.

"We must stamp out sectarianism!"

"Well that's surprisingly progressive of you... Oh, you mean Muslims, not royalist pro-union anti-Catholics. Carry on."

GOOD NEWS for one of the UK’s rarest birds. 😍 🙌

There are new signs of hope for Capercaillie at RSPB Abernethy, thanks to long-term collaboration between the RSPB, landowners, partners and the Scottish Government.

Hooray for Capercaillie!

Honestly. "How do we spin this so it doesn't mean we should change anything we're doing in any way at all or that losing was our fault?"

Fish every Friday? How Catholic of you 😂

The extremes of the right: "no immigrants! Throw rocks at hotels!"
The "extremes" of the left: "fund higher education! Housing should be affordable! We love the NHS!"

Holy crap.

I watched a bit of the @greenelects.world livestream last night and the wildly optimistic person on the panel reckoned they were going to get 40%.

This is an astonishing result, and absolutely catastrophic for Labour, who won 50.8% of the vote in 2024, on very nearly the same turnout.😮

Thank you for the apology, but honestly that's how I read it, and I was meaning to use it in the same spirit.

I object to the idea that godless atheists are out there stealing crayons from imprisoned children. I mean yes it's against Christian teachings but it's also just flat mean.

Wow, someone said this? Or loud? In parliament?

Yes please fund university education through general taxation. And can we do the NHS while we're here?

I'm not sure a I've had any training that wasn't computer based since 2020...

@moragperkinsphoto.com this seems like something you might know about?

If I'm ill, it tends not to be made better by frantically repeatedly hitting redial during the window between 8:00:00AM and 8:00:30AM when they'll make appointments, only to be told they'll fit me in in July.

If it's not working, you're not smacking hard enough.

This is a societal trend, too. Want people to do less drugs? Prison! Want fewer small boats? Stricter immigration policies! Adults with burnout? Discipline and resilience! Just be different! Have different circumstances!

This whole story is wild honestly.

It makes me worry about society honestly. The Artist Formerly Known As Prince had to handle more shit and no one worked about his mental health.

now yes of course anti-vax issues are a problem in many parts of the world, and there's some small pockets of it in England, but the data shows that the majority of UK parents do wish for their kids to be vaccinated, and vaccine hesitancy is actually quite low. but rates of vaccination are falling.

In the book I'm currently reading, the protagonist is the son of a protagonist from a previous book in the same series.
She named him Daystar. She named her actual son after the actual sun.
I actually don't think this is a deliberate pun which is almost worse 😂

Hey, that's me! One parent did teach at a provincial (actually an inner-city) comprehensive!
I didn't realise I was actually the definition of lower middle class 😂

I'm going to use "upper working class" explicitly from now on. It pairs well when you have a Glasgow accent (working class) and a PhD (the type of elite expert the country has had enough of).

I drink a fair amount of tea, but honestly trying to self-medicate this cold with tea and honey is treating even my limits.

A photo of the gremlins exhibit at the Riverside museum in Glasgow. It shows a 90s kitchen, American movie style, with a gremlin on the worktop surrounded by spilled oranges.

Ah yes, it's tucked away by the kids picnic area, easy to miss!
