It was. Knowledge of concepts that can be pulled through the curriculum help students form a deeper understanding and make links across their study. When I marked AQA Lit this year, it was easy to spot students who had been taught a conceptual approach as opposed to text by text.

I have read your book, Sam, and it was brilliant. Reinforced my belief in the value of a concept driven curriculum. Using summer planning to put concepts at the forefront of analysis going forwards 👍
