In the case of payment processors money talks more, and calls cost/waste money

The simplest solution is often the answer. Collective shout didn't have to twist their rubber arm. It's a case of them having done this almost every year or so to more or less extremes over time and it's always a case of do they backtrack or do people just accept it.
