In walking distance of an entirely-too-purple Planet Fitness and at the corner of Pulaski and Rossville, there’s a disembodied trio of buildings that make a Gen Z Wal-Mart: Lovecraft on the corner, Pizza Sauce in the middle, Nirvana Cannabis on the end.

I’ve been writing a lot of poetry lately (as opposed to mini essays), likely as some kind of defense against *waves wildly*.

As this is a completely different platform than I’ve used before, I think I’ll post photos and just include phrases and lines from those poems.

This is a photo of Lauren Mayberry dancing around the stage during “Bird” (I think?) at Merriweather. It’s a sparse image; and yet, something about dancing alone to a song about escaping and burning down the world behind you, well it resonates.

I asked AI to pick a month in the last 3 years and asked if I should go with color or black and white. I got September 2023 and b&w. I reckon getting to the other side of decision isn’t the worst use of AI (but maybe not worth the water bottle).

2) I really love this photograph. I think it captures so much of what I try to do as a concert photographer and an editor. I hope you like it! In color (my preference) and black and white (trying to do my fave shots twice with a different eye)

We’re deep in the shit, but maybe we’ll find away to shovel our way to fertilizing roses and dandelions.

But - and I say this with as much love as I can - there is a lot of fucking good in our world(s) that deserves our attention. I’m not calling for universal positivity (I hate it tbh), and we do need to find ways to protect our society; I’m just cautioning against universal negativity.

I picked this pic for two reasons.

1) “the line is very fine / between free and paralyzed” — listen, our world is moving towards fascism in many countries. America feels a little worse because of our failed businessman reality tv star and the storm he’s already bringing.
