他国の仏教では、たとえばチベット仏教でもテーラワーダ仏教諸国でもこういった問題は断続的に発生するが、組織としての声明を求められたり、他の僧侶が何か発言しないことを責められるということはない。その発想自体が自然でない。しかし日本ではこれが自明のようにいわれる。まずその発想から見直す必要がある。

天台宗の性的スキャンダルの件について、僧侶が発言しないことを詰る向きがあり、それ自体は心情としては理解できるものだが、しかし妥当ではない。奇異に思われるかもしれないが、これは現実的にいえば、一人スポーツ選手がこのような問題を起こしたら他の選手はこれについて発言せねばならないというのと実は同等だ。じっさいはそれぞれがそれぞれの持ち場においてのやれることをただやるだけという大前提があり、他者の責を何らかのかたちで負わねばならないということはない。

今年はVISAがとんでもなく難航した。このせいで数ヶ月間振り回されっぱなしだった。まだパスポートすら戻ってきていない。来週からインド行きが決まっており、そちらはチケットもVISAも完璧。インド側が、もうスリランカではなくインドに長くいたらどうかと言ってきている。

天台宗の件、まあ予想の範囲内ではあった。世間では不満はあろうが、あれが限界であり、また残念だが順当ではあろう。僧団の審判とは古来より閉鎖的な状況で行われるものであり、そして自分たちよりも上の立場の人はまず裁けないような仕組みになっているからだ。被害者の尼僧の方は、あくまでも宗教の本質から問うて欲しかったから刑事ではなく宗内での審理に賭けたのだと思うが、完全に裏切られたというか、裏目に出てしまったかたちだ。

Xでは、今回のタイ地震に際し、現地に滞在する邦人が「死ぬときは死ぬ」とポストされていて、お見舞いの思いよりも思わず笑みのほうが気持ちを占めてしまった。国外にいればアドレナリンが上がるというのは身に覚えがあるから、その気持ちが察せられるところもある。死の恐怖とは、アドレナリンの機嫌に大きく左右されることを、我々は日常では忘れている。

特に老師といわれる立場であれば、世間に疎いくらいである方がよく、しかしそれでは娑婆においては不具者でしかないので、行者（あんじゃ）周辺が執り持ってバランスをとるために腐心するものだ。

しかしやはり宗教者たるもの、そして禅者たるもの、世間的な常識の枠に収まっているのはそれはそれで小さくまとまったつまらないものであり、アバンギャルドさに欠けている禅宗などあってもなくても変わらないのではという思いもはるかに深い奥底に沈潜している。

そしてやはりオウム事件に際しての声明のときにも思ったことだが、「世間知らず」といわれる宗教者において、曹洞宗のこういった声明は、むしろ世間よりも腰を据え芯を捉えようという姿勢から、なかなかの識者を抱えていると思う。

宗教法人の解散命令については、曹洞宗の見解は至極妥当に思う。オウム事件に際しての宗門としての見解も、「頭でっかち」なきらいが嗅ぎとれたものの、条件反射の単純な一般論に流されまいと事象を見据える姿勢が窺える。https://www.sotozen-net.or.jp/syumucyo/20231122_1.html
