Let me remind that in the run up to Iraq 2003, 'realist' scholars who opposed the war, some of whom had been regular oped contributors before, couldnt place in the NYT or WaPo at all, eventually paying to run an oped as an advertisement.

It’s hard to make a convincing argument that the market, left to itself, won’t produce enough retail space. The United States already has far more retail space per capita than other developed nations.

Joe Calvello gave us Fetterman, then tried to run cover from Brandon Johnson’s terribleness, then gave us Platner. That guy is like a divining rod for fraudulent progressives. Why aren’t more people mad at that guy?

And Mamdani just hired him!

The fact that he hired Joe Calvello to run coms, after working for Fetterman and Johnson, told me everything I needed to know about this guy, before I learned any of this other stuff.

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.

β€œHelsinki hasn’t registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past year…Citing data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a car’s speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinki’s residential areas and city center in 2021.”

This is a symptom of the U.S. military’s erroneous conception of strategy as scale. If it’s happening at a large scale, it must be strategic.

It’s difficult. It takes a lot of folks and resources. It requires high level commanders.

But it’s not strategic.

This is consistent with what one hears from serious analysts all around. The US negotiating team, led by two New York real estate developers with a reputation for incompetence at that and no serious diplomats or nuclear experts, were a bunch of ignorant pikers incapable of engaging in serious talks.

Iran's Supreme Leader Khamenei is dead, Iranian state media confirms "Khamenei, one of the most evil people in History, is dead," Trump wrote on Truth Social on Feb. 28. He also said the bombing of Iran would continue for at least the next week.

⚑️Update: Iranian state media confirms Khamenei's death.

Iranian state media confirmed on Feb. 29 that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died following Israeli-U.S. strikes, ending hours of conflicting claims and denials surrounding his state.

I thought Jon Yoo made clear that the point of the OLC memos was just to provide a brief summary of strained legal pretext used to justify terrible/illegal executive actions? Is that not what we’re doing anymore?

01.03.2026 00:38 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

at this point, I think it’s fair to say that many respectable scholars, including on the right, think OLC has gone out pretty far over its skis. The OLC memos are also purely internal to the executive; they’ve never been tested in court or stacked up against a real challenge by Congress

On top of all the reporting that this war of aggression was planned well in advance, it seems that the reporting also indicates that the US political leadership are quite literally too stupid to understand basic diplomacy. I mean literally not smart enough.

Is the War on Iraq Lawful? - FindLaw Read Legal Commentary: Is the War on Iraq Lawful? at FindLaw.com

🧡 In March 2003 I wrote a column explaining why the then-imminent attack on Iraq would violate international law but probably not violate US separation of powers because Bush had congressional authorization. Today's attack on Iran is equally a violation of int'l law but also the US Constitution. /1

A guy in my basic training class in 1999 was a senior at Columbine when the shooting happen. We both enlisted pre-911. I was deployed twice while trying to finish college. Graduated grad school in 2009 and most of my class was either furloughed or had employment offers rescinded.
