mad that "vibe coding" means using "AI" tools and not getting stoned and coding while listening to your favorite music

Probably doesn’t need saying, but no law was broken. Israel broke international law by abducting people in international waters, people who were seeking to break Israel’s illegal siege, itself part of the genocide

The UK is within spitting distance of having more murders portrayed annually on TV shows and movies set in the country than occur in real life

Today is Tues, Oct 7

Two years ago today, my people were massacred. Two years ago today, Israel launched a genocide. I'm not sure I know how to be hopeful or helpful today.

The only liberation is a shared liberation. May we have courage enough to build it. May all their memories be a revolution.

This is an excellent statement, but he is going to get criticism both for saying (rightly) that the war is genocide and that Israel is committing apartheid, AND he is also going to get criticism for saying (rightly) that Hamas committed atrocities and war crimes.

I'm not very good and things happen Very, Very Fast, so while I'm not just button mashing I'm not exactly *not* button mashing

Hades first try trip report:

managed two bosses on the first try each (not my first run, just the first time I reached each boss), so I got a few rooms into Elysium

no clue how far that actually is, but it feels good to have managed

I'm really looking forward to when I actually make time for Andy Serkis to read it to me

I am desperate for audiobooks and podcasts specifically due to autism reasons

that tism is a land of contrasts

07.10.2025 04:31 — 👍 4    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 1

nonfiction turns my brain to glass

it is a real problem

but man the ability to speed up podcasts/books/etc is both horridly janky and a real godsend when it works (which is only sometimes)

07.10.2025 04:26 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

yeah that all scans as totally reasonable

I usually am okay with audiobooks but the voice being "wrong" (whatever that means) can make me struggle

07.10.2025 04:22 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

this is likewise true!

and even if they do read a braile book that's still way different an experience, even purely on e mechanical level, than reading by using eyes to look at letters

oh I believe it

ima be honest I just haven't even tried with any Intellectual Groundbreaking Novels, I know my brain doesn't work that well

I've listened to a few (not a lot) audio books and I always think of this one because it's a real standout

I should listen to it again

I cannot imagine the gulf in how I now read books minutes at a time on my phone vs hiding under the blanket to read a whole book on a schoolnight carefully listening for footsteps in the hallway

07.10.2025 04:12 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 1

and if your issue is primarily semantic, in that you don't think listening is literally reading, fine, that seems normal, words can mean things and I like when they do, but that seems to pretty solidly correlate with the assertion that one is, flatly, lesser in some ineffable sense, which, no.

if there were any way to meaningfully measure it, I'd lay down money that my experience reading "Piranesi" vs listening to "Piranesi" (either time!) were more similar to each other than any of them were to any other person's experience of reading "Piranesi"

07.10.2025 04:10 — 👍 5    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

people who read a whole series after it's all been published have a different experience from people who read it as it comes out

and this is, like, the most superficial of differences, because age, culture, upbringing, mood, education, etc can drastically change reading experience

07.10.2025 04:10 — 👍 5    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

people who read paper books have a different experience to people reading ebooks

people who read one book at a time have a different experience from people reading several

people who read a lot in one sitting have a different experience from people who read small bits at a time

07.10.2025 04:10 — 👍 9    🔁 0    💬 4    📌 0

do you think the listener has a lesser experience of the book vs the person reading it to them?

07.10.2025 04:05 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

and that's 1000% reasonable!

07.10.2025 04:04 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

I don't think Piranesi was meant to be read out loud but damned if Chiwetel Ejiofor reading it to me isn't the best version of it
