MH World wasn't just good, for me as a game it really was eye opening. and i think Wilds throws all of that away to be fast, easy and inoffensive, a full 70$ version of the guiding lands with a thin narrative to justify it. it feels like such a waste

world was actually such a good game that it introduced me in broader terms to the concept of friction in game design - to the idea that inconvenience and being slowed down and things not being instantly gratifying was good. it was a MINDBLOWING game as someone who had been a pretty mainstream gamer

like, people are chalking it up to weapon balance or fight design or the performance when the reality is that i think that this game feels like it is literally just hallways that lead you to boss arenas where you fight them. the maps feel like sekiret race tracks and not hostile environments

friction and resistance of the natural world that made me really like world as my first MH game is just kind of gone. and i'm saying that even knowing that these criticisms existed OF world by veteran players, which i think should say something about how flat Wilds fell

like yeah i guess all the weapons feel better, but there's mechanics that make positioning less important. the sekiret makes me feel completely disconnected. the story flung me through areas so fast i had no time to appreciate them. it feels like the core gameplay is really solid but so much of the
