A key take away for me is that these molecular force sensors and signal transduction molecules may link tissue-scale forces to a form of mechanical memory in tumour cells that promotes disease progression. Was a pleasure to be able to work with Sarah and Michael and make a contribution to this work

We’re organizing a conference at @ijmonod.bsky.social in Paris, January 2026, in memory of M.P. Sheetz β€” pioneer in cell mechanics and mechanobiology, co-discoverer of kinesin, and founder of @mbisg.bsky.social. Join us to explore his legacy.

Screenshot of tweet from the ARC about a survey they want "stakeholders" to complete. Black text on white background above a rather outsized picture of dark blue smudges on a light-blue background. One smudge says "Survey" … you know, to catch your eye?

Once again, ARC hits the 🎯 with their comms strategy:

8pm on Sunday night. When the eyeballs of researchers are glued to … twitter?

They've not posted this anywhere else. I can't think of a better way to _not_ "engage stakeholders". Almost uncanny.

A beautifully elegant study from Vaish and Leeba and team looking at mitochondrial volume regulation using cleverly designed and fabricated chambers to track fission yeast divisions over time

PhD student Jesse Gardner-Russell earns $20 an hour. Experts say low pay is turning Australia’s best and brightest away The University of Melbourne student whose work could contribute to curing blindness says β€˜people are shocked to find out how unlivable it is’

β€œThe PhD stipend is $33,511 … well below minimum wage of $47,627”

β€œUniversities can raise the stipend to a maximum of $52,352, but a ACGR survey found none have done so. The highest stipend is just over $40,000 … with the average at $34,244.”

Wot? How is this in line with section 6 of the ARC conflict of interest and confidentiality policy? And the hide to even ask for this information. I’m struggling to find a charitable explanation for the intended purpose of having those names.

If there is anybody on Bluesky with an interest in working towards a PhD with a vibrant and inclusive group of people, we have a funded project available through @singmolsci.bsky.social in UNSW, Sydney, to do some advanced single molecule & electron πŸ”¬. Please pass on to any students you may know. πŸ§ͺ
