Any team trading for Zion can treat his contract as pre agency. Trade for a guy they are gonna sign to a 1+1 team option essentially. That's what makes him the single most interesting trade piece in the league in my opinion.

Getting off the money is very profitable even outside of the FA play. So many trade avenues open up with this flexibility

There is no need to subsidize Zion's value with a a Herb Jones or future pick or even Yves Missi unless the goal is a star for star trade. This is not a "get off this long contract" situation.

I see some trades or suggestions where the Pelicans have to add items to Zion just move off him and not net a better player in return. Those suggestionss are woefully misinformed. The Pelicans can just cut him if they wanted to get rid of him. No picks or pieces necessary.

James Borrego says he learned of it this morning and that's when imaging was done. He doesn't know when the injury occured or have further information.

Per my understanding of the situation, the expectation was for Zion to play tonight.

He showed up this morning expressing discomfort in the adductor area, which led to imaging, which led to a diagnosis.

We will ask James Borrego more about it in about an hour.

The official designation from the Pelicans is a grade 2 right hip adductor strain
