My wife and I discuss this quite often. I’m retired and still make plenty of money, however we both limit how much we or the family eats out due to the expense.

The pandemic and policy caused some inflation, but now we’re running head first into a depression.

Not to be trite, but isn’t buying gold effectively buying China? As long as their consumption stays high, then it’s safe(er) I guess.

I’m spread across dividend, REIT’s, quality companies, and private equity. Just feeling a little dooms day near term, as I also give a lot to non profits….

I’ve been thinking about this extensively. If you (or I) have assets in the market that are still up from their basis, what do you do?

Take a capital gains hit to re allocate to treasuries? Those will sink.

Take a gains hit to move to gold?

Not really sure there’s a safe place.

Move to Cincinnati, it’s a great town.

? Have had that in Cincinnati Ohio for a few years now.

Yeah, kind of my point. It’s going to get worse before it gets worse.

Name a state that has surplus to take care of that, cover Medicaid match, and other subsidies that disappear or delay.
