The biggest plot twist for me when it came to learning everything surrounding the new Silent Hill movie was learning that the screenwriter for the first movie got arrested for vehicular manslaughter and is also a hardcore conspiracy theorist and ALSO that he's getting into the AI-movie grift so uh

Dont get me wrong, i liked the first movie, but...

I'ma be real, normally i'd agree that konami had too many fingers in the pie but this is so dreadfully abysmal and fucks up EVERY inch of it that I'm full on laying the blame on the director's shoulder here. The remake didn't fuck up it's adaptation, there's no genuine reason this shouldve fumbled.

Spoilers for the SH movie, but seriously there is a huge difference between fucking up the story of "i whack'a beasty in the head with a bat" and fucking up the story of "killing my wife cause she inconveniently got cancer" and making it "actually witches made my wife sick but time travel saved her"

The Monster Hunter movie already didn't stand much of a chance on account of MH not having much of a story in its games to begin with and them tryina do Milla Jovovich isekai or something
But RtSH just actively removes all nuance and subtly and genuine care for ALL of its subject matter.

RE and SH both have their own places in my heart, with RE just always being a fun romp with shootybangs and SH being this deep dive into the human psyche, but it just so utterly fumbles its themes in this movie

The first movie I would not call a GOOD movie, but holy fuck its 110% way better as a movie, this one is just completely disrespectful to its source material and fumbles its themes in a way that actually puts bile in my mouth
