If anything the truly inspired adaptations are probably going to happen with cartoons or TV shows. Heck that's been the case with superheroes since Batman TAS at least, and there's been a recent trend of video game adaptations doing well there.
So that's what I'm really anticipating.

I mean credit where it's due, I'll effortlessly take Mario '23 over '93, especially since the latter was frankly overly safe Hollywood trash but of a different kind (that type of grimy, pseudo sci fi distopian action film was very dime a dozen back then).
But it's fair to say 23 was overly safe.

Eh, I just want Link to be allowed to speak, so he can be given more options for characterization.
Silence on him or in general can possibly work if done right, but I'd want that to be an organic decision, not a hard big N rule.
But I want to see precedent for him speaking being workable.

And I mean hey nothing wrong with playing safe and doing the game story but with more context and detail, worked well enough in the ALTTP manga.
But seriously, let Link say words, break that mold.

Building on the ponts in the thread, if Nintendo *does* make Link silent in this film, it will almost definitely be for very Nintendo-y hard rules of cause that's how the big N rules it.
Not to make some fanfictiony arthouse piece that this film will almost certainly not be.

I still sometimes hear the argument of "well the photograph was controversial too!"
That argument misses that even back then, a photo was very easy to distinguish from a painting.
Photographs aren't trying to imitate every style in the book like AI is

Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

I will sit through that cheesy 80s cartoon for 24 consecutive hours with my eyelids forced open over watching the TOTK cut scenes where the alleged protagonist is a brick wall and the side cast does awkward impressions of human emotions.
