The Prisoner Correspondence Project strongly opposes Quebec's change in policy, requiring transgender prisoners to be housed according to their "anatomical sex". Full statement here:

absolutely obsessed with this mail rejection from California saying that the smut we sent "lacks serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value". we disagree! the smut we send has literary, artistic, political AND scientific value

Prisoners deserve access to community regardless of their religion, but the Florida Department of Corrections prohibits it. This is especially upsetting given recent policy changes in Florida, making it more difficult for trans prisoners to access gender-affirming accommodations and healthcare.

For LGBTQ+ people behind bars, penpal programs are one of the only ways to connect to your community and receive support and resources. The exception for Christian programs is an extra slap in the face for LGBTQ+ prisoners, who may have faced marginalization by the church.

One thing new volunteers are often shocked to learn is that Florida and Missouri outright ban penpal programs! To make matters worse, Florida does make an exception exclusively for *Christian* penpal programs πŸ™„

Graph titled: Public information officers are making it harder for journalists to interview police officers. 56% of reporters, editors, and producers interviewed said they rarely or never can successfully interview police without involving the public info office.

Corrections departments are increasingly trying to use "gag rules" to forbid staff from interviews with journalists without approval – what would a system centered around "justice" need to hide? πŸ€”

We also thoroughly censor hardcore images in all of the material we distribute, which doesn't stop arbitrary decisions being taken in the mailroom, often applying policy in a homophobic manner.

Usually our rejections are a bit more euphemistic though lol. 🧡 3/3

At PCP, we distribute sexual content--and it is one of our most requested resources--because we recognize the reality that sexuality is part of life, as much for incarcerated people as it is for everyone else. Straight p*rn is being circulated inside; we do our best for our queer communities. 🧡 2/3

New rejection notice just dropped!

In all seriousness, prisons operate on the ridiculous notion that every single person within it is absolutely chaste. This results in harmful policies such as those preventing the distribution of condoms inside, encouraging the spread of STIs. 🧡 1/?

Prison labor is usually mandatory and often unpaid.

This May Day, we're thinking of the incarcerated workers who are exploited every single day to keep prisons running.

words from one of our Inside Collective members - we have members waiting for penpal pretty much everywhere in the US and we encourage folks to write to someone local to them when possible!

to whoever donated 1000$ to our project today - we cannot thank you enough! 😭

not only does it allow us to pay for our ever increasing costs of stamps, resource printing, etc., but the time we would have had to spend applying for grants we can spend doing direct support for queer prisoners ❀️‍πŸ”₯

The Prisoner Correspondence Project condemns the sentencing of Levana Ballouz to be housed in a men's prison despite her explicit request to be housed in a women's prison.

Screenshot of text from article: "Hatcher said family members have started sending more e-messages since the Department of Corrections banned physical mail from entering state prisons in September. Non-legal mail sent to Oklahoma prisons is sent to a processing center in Dallas, where it's sorted, scanned and uploaded to the prisoner's Securus account. Prisoners can print a black-and-white copy for 25 cents or a color copy for $1."

Take a look at what's happening in Oklahoma

Incarcerated people & their families may save money on calls, but now have to foot the bill of e-messaging and digital copies of mail – an especially sinister reality as states implement mail scanning policies

Things have gotten much more dangerous for trans women in federal prison since Trump came into office.

As one of our inside members expresses, being denied a bra isn't just a source of dysphoria, it is enabling sexual violence towards trans women in federal prison.

Revisiting old PCP meeting minutes - we were thinking big in terms of fundraising ideas in 2019 😭

We rely on donors to sustain our project - you can donate at the link below so we're not forced to resort to piercings, crime, or creating industries
