At the VERY LEAST don't suggest anything you haven't read in the past, let's say, decade

Yup. For the same reason you shouldn't show a movie you loved as a teen to your kid without watching it again first, ie the Sixteen Candles Problem

I've told this story before but I was in a taxi once and my driver, learning I was a writer, complained his young kid only wanted comic books. I told him to encourage that, because that was the kid's door into reading and the rest would come in time. I think it helped that advice came from a writer.

For the folks suggesting I'm promoting science fiction works from this millennium because I want an extra sale or two

1. I assure you I am doing fine, thanks for your concern

I like Brooks Adreniline GTS (currently in year 5 of using this brand and year 3 of the style). They are a good all round trainer suitable for outdoor or treadmill, comfortable and cushioned enough for distance walking as well. They are very light foam with 'guide rails' to keep foot aligned.

And do your art.

Grief taught me to feel joy
so rich it bubbles over with laughter
even as my heart and soul
are mourning
chest a canyon of aching loss
how sweet
this unexpected
unwarranted delight
so sharp
remembrance cuts through it
breath caught on machete edge
tastes like iron
salt
life

If he likes them I may steer him towards the Expanse books and maybe some of @scalzi.com lightrer books, I think he'd like the Kaiju Preservation Society for its irrevelant whimsy as well as Starter Villain.

As for 'classic'. Read a lot of it as a kid and varied in my joy from 'absolutely love' to 'did nothing for me'. I certainly wouldn't recommend anything classic to my kids unless they asked. 15 year old loved Animal Farm and War of the Worlds and wanted more so I suggested V for Vendetta and 1984.

I personally preferred Neuromancer, I know it is more problematic and raw in style, maybe those are the reasons I like it more ('cause I am a contrarian arse). I also don't mind 'manspalined' as long as the explanation is interesting, but do want the people in the story to have full life as well.

Bah. Demanding people read half-century-old work as a purity test for genre membership is a fine way to kill the genre dead.

I wrote about such nonsense here;

Editor: Great! We’re gonna slap a clickbait headline on this baby that is *insane.* People are gonna want to *kill* you!

Reporter: (sigh) Well, I guess it’s worth it if they read it.

Editor: Haha, don’t worry, they won’t. Here, let me throw that away for you.

That is an assumption that it is a square and not say a cube etc. (other root variables are available, you best turn it in to a equation where Mathematicians get their kicks on a variable root of 66).

I'm sad to say that since leaving Twitter/X my sales for live shows have dropped quite a lot - it turns out that even though it's a dreadful place it was still useful for getting the word out about events. So any shares / RTs of my posts about live shows are hugely appreciated!

β€˜Worrying’ levels of screen time means young people losing confidence to socialise in person, minister warns – UK politics live Culture secretary Lisa Nandy says β€˜majority of young people spend all, or almost all, of their free time alone in their bedrooms, online’

This is not caused primarily by "screen time".

It's been caused by the mass eradication of third places for young people in basically every city over the past three decades - and a society that's hostile to the concept of teens socialising in public spaces.
