I'll be honest, I policed my own language in the post above. That is what this settlement does: forces us all to bend the knee to people who should neither be feared (but are) nor respected

Critically, Columbia retains control over its academic and operational decisions. As set forth in the agreement: “No provision of this agreement, individually or taken together, shall be construed as giving the United States authority to dictate faculty hiring, university hiring, admissions decisions, or the content of academic speech.” This was our north star, and we did not waver from it. Columbia’s governance remains in our control. The federal government will not dictate what we teach, who teaches, or which students we admit.

Shipman’s statement to the community also comes one week after she announced that the University would be taking additional measures to combat antisemitism, including the adoption of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism, a partnership with the Anti-Defamation League to create trainings on antisemitism, and the appointment of Title VI and Title VII coordinators. Shipman added that the University will see more efforts to combat antisemitism “in the coming months.” As part of the agreement with the federal government, the University has mutually agreed to an “independent monitor and arbitrator as neutral third parties” that will require the government to go through specified steps if it is believed that the University is not abiding to the agreement, and vice versa. “If the parties can’t agree, the matter goes to the arbitrator, and then, as needed, to court,” Shipman wrote. According to the settlement, a designated University administrator will be “principally responsible for coordinating and overseeing compliance” with the agreement and be given “sufficient supervisory authority and access to resources within Columbia to direct implementation” of the settlement. This administrator will make regular reports to an independent monitor, including the transfer of data on rejected and admitted students. According to section VI of the settlement, Bart Schwartz of Guidepost Solutions, a private company that conducts investigations and provides monitoring, security, and technology consulting, will be the independent monitor and will “monitor Columbia’s compliance” with the settlement.

How do you square Shipman's statement with the facts of the actual settlement
