If your only reaction is "she should've just kept her mouth shut," I usually assume 1 of 2 things:

1. You don't understand the fullness of the issue

2. Your goal isn't protecting trans people, it's consuming HP media without social consequence

If your response to JKR's transphobia is "if she'd just kept her mouth shut, everything would be fine," I encourage you to inspect that thought.

JKR doesn't just talk about transphobia, she funds it and steers public policy.

If she'd "shut her mouth," that wouldn't stop things.

Footnote: The cis queer men in my life who already understood all of this and live it wholeheartedly have ushered in a new world of love and belonging that I never felt before. I love them dearly, and it's safe to say at this point that I owe them my sanity, lol. You know who you are. ❤️

"I support trans people" to people like that just means, "I am not actively punching a trans person in the face and therefore I am an ally." I can and will do better than you. Stop inviting me in to emotional/physical intimacy with you. I am tired of ending connections I thought were safe.

You DO NOT get to tell them what is and isn't acceptable for their bodies. Nor do you get to project what you want them to be onto them and be disappointed when they don't meet your standard.

After the interactions I have had with cis queer men over the last two years, I want to make something abundantly clear:

If you are sexually or romantically attracted to a nonbinary person, especially someone who came out within the last few years, you owe them room to figure out who they are.
