And today, 38 years plus one day since that photo on the Sandridge Bridge, here's the modern day incarnation of that same preserved Tait with a chuffy thing on the back, running a Steamrail Belgrave to Ringwood shuttle between Upper Ferntree Gully and Ferntree Gully.

A Queensland Rail goods train hauled by a blue and white liveried diesel locomotive runs away from us on a track that runs alongside the far side of a suburban street. A second track branches from the track on which the train is travelling and curves towards us across the street and through the grassy verge one which I was standing when taking this photo. A hotel and various suburban industrial buildings and facilities fill the background behind the train.

Today's historic pic: A Queensland Rail goods train heads south-west along the side-of-road track in Spence Street, Cairns, Qld, July 27 1986. The line curving towards us led to Cairns station. Tracks along Spence St were removed in the 1990s and trains nowadays run south via Portsmith instead.

Today's historic pic: A Queensland Rail goods train headed by what I think is 2470 class diesel 2475 and a 1502 class at Kawana, Queensland, July 18 1986. Kawana is in the northern suburbs of Rockhampton about 640km north of Brisbane on QR's 1067mm gauge Brisbane to Cairns North Coast main line.

It’s fascinating to know how others see us, so urbanist Youtuber Ray Delahunty @nerd4cities.bsky.social reports from his recent visit to this corner of the world were eagerly awaited

TL;DR he glows about Melbourne though myki gets a dry roast

His Sydney report next apparently

A single car Redhen diesel railcar in Indian Red livery with distinctive orange tiger stripes on the aprons beneath the two front windows and a route indicator plate at its front bottom right displaying a yellow X on a black background, heads along the furthest of four main line tracks running is a railway alignment. Behind the train is an additional pair of tracks on a slightly higher alignment, and beyond that, behind the railway property, is a water tank on a tall tankstand.

Today's historic pic: Exactly 40 years ago today, Adelaide Redhen diesel railcar 436 runs an Adelaide-bound trip from Belair or Bridgewater near Keswick, SA, April 9 1985. Redhen railcars ran Adelaide's broad gauge suburban trains from 1955 until the last few were withdrawn in late 1996.

Re: Olympics Games for SEQ 2032 Nathandavid88 is right, that was the point I'm making. Many people do come a long way to New Farm Park, but that isn't a good thing. More high quality parks in more places means shorter journeys.

Re: Olympics Games for SEQ 2032 ^^ I think you've misread the point Cygnus is making. It would be nice if there were more similar quality parks more evenly spread around the suburbs, so that so many people wouldn't need to travel a long way to visit major inner city parks like New Fa...
