Testimony

My son, I have this story
to leave you:
once, on the darkest night of my little life,
when the old year was turning
to a new one,
I lay alone in the wilds of the pine trees
and I told the sky,
No one loves my chaos.
(I was young. I still believed
in fairness. I still believed, as the ruined
do, in truth.)
I don't know what you'll think
in your own time, but I—I believe,
my child,
that the monstrous storm that happened,
thunder and flood as I had never known,
I believe, Leo, that that was the God I love,
saying, If no one
knows you,
I do, I know you.
Look at this chaos of my wild heart.
You think it's easy
to love me?
For a trillion years I've been
lonely. Only
the boldest can hold me.
Sweet Jesus the love you'd have if you
were you.

Last night was a dark one for me. Walking away from all of it, I lay down in the woods and sank into real despair. The sky broke open in the worst thunderstorm I've ever known. Somewhere in that storm I found this poem. It saved my life.

@katemossewriter.bsky.social could not have put it better. How can any AI company justify stealing authors’ works? And we need the government to step up and protect the creative industries (£126bn to UK per year!).

AI’s assault on our intellectual property must be stopped on.ft.com/3ZRBSDA

Worth remembering that books still power a huge proportion of what we watch on our screens.
26% of global streaming shows between 2016 to 2022 were based on books.

Most (72%) were by Netflix -
Of the top 250 shows on Netflix last year, just under 1 in 5 came from books.
We need stories.

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

A big hello to all new book-loving Bluesky-ers!

(If you already follow us, (i) thank you, and (ii) a re-post would be very appreciated, to let people know we're here...)

(In other UK news, there's no snow here. It's very sad.)

I love that so many are advocating for libraries on my TL. If you don't know already, you can connect your library card to Libby, which allows you to read books on the Kindle store for FREE. #Booksky

Write what you want to read. The person you know best in this world is you. Listen to yourself. If you are excited by what you are writing, you have a much better chance of putting that excitement over to a reader.” - Robin McKinley ~ Keep Writing.

Celebrating little victories in writing can be huge to an author. These victories lead to bigger victories later on. We can then start to see writing and being an author in a different light. They help us keep growing as authors. - Wrtr #amwriting #author #writing #writer

Let’s build a space safe here to talk about things that really matter- books, films, art and creative industry?
Just a reminder how much the #creativeundustries bring in to UK alone.
