Yes both U.S. political parties suffer from the myth of complete U.S. hegemony and never anticipate that for all our power and wealth our actions in the world will be met with reaction. Attempting absolute hegemony is a very expensive and sometimes self-defeating - e.g., Iraq war, Vietnam war.
