Late '90s PC microphone (screencapped from eBay), such as this album seems like it could have been recorded on.

KryptiK – The Dead Hate the Living, hard to rank as the vocals have a PC mic audio quality throughout. Lyricism isn't much where you can pick it out + the music is pretty stock. Lots of movie audio doing the work for them. Can't deny there's atmosphere, but I have a high tolerance for unmixed music.

I put 'horrorcore' into Discogs, to turn over the rock for interesting microbudget critters. Next few will be those finds. Then I'll be past fifty and will likely be out of work to cover.

A lot I had to leave out for being in German, interestingly. Just no way to assess that lyrically – unless... πŸ€”

honestly, having the ability to tune out lyrics (from years of listening to, say, No Limit Records lol) in favor of music has enabled me to not hate the Chili Peppers like so many others

Yeah, I'm having that with my pet genre, especially when it becomes a retro thing to do later on...

This actually does not seem to be real all of the sources I can find for it are about majors doing a movie the only reference to Levi being in a all stem from this one post that says via deadline with no link to deadline because that article does not exist. I swear checking sources is not hard.

Navigating and trying to be realistic about your relationship with problematic works is a million times more interesting and mature as a person than "actually I never liked them and also since they suck I have always been vindicated"

The recent revival of the cursed β€œhow very dare you say writers should read” discourse and its β€œignorance is purityβ€œ flavor reminded me of an ad for a film reviewer who didn’t watch that many movies so their reviews would be β€œpure”

What were they gonna do after a few months on the job?

So yeah, I am up to my eyeballs in the ”pure” approach and it’s awful. Every silent gives them Boss Baby vibes. It MUST be referencing the one other silent they saw. The earliest movie they saw HAS to be the first to do it.

I get that there was a pushback against edgy content for edginess sake, but I think we pivoted too far into respectability and I need horror that isn't afraid of being banned in several countries. I need you guys to get a little bit more daring with it. I require a healthy level of bad taste.

No more using "edgy" as a pejorative, from now on it is synonymous with "pleb filter"

It's a fine time when I'm at home with the boyf, or even out with the boyf of late. But the vibe on anything longer-term important (like bettering my job or keeping good friends) isn't there of late. Particularly hating work this week, and it's two shifts to go.

feel like the salience of mass culture consumption is way down at the same time, while "how do we participate in tech infrastructure ethically" is much harder and maybe makes even less sense?

I think for me, growing up, the question β€œhow do we consume mass culture ethically” would have made no sense and I kinda still think that’s true

I don't expect Discogs to be very accurate about genre, but using the horrorcore tag and searching 2001 gives me a lot I hadn't heard ofβ€”mostly seemingly released on a microbudget.

Plenty to choose from for a last few. But would anyone have been interested in hearing about it, if I'd started there?
