We need a quantum computer that does stock trades really fast so 2 or 3 opaque organizations can have all the money ever made in the world

I think people have a lot of Gorillaz nostalgia but don't remember how difficult a listen their debut is. It pulls in so many directions mood-wise, and is steeped in sour harmony. Awesome that someone made it a hit record, but not altogether the bouncy ride the singles promise. May catch people out.

I'm not particularly nostalgic for CDs as a technology but I am particularly nostalgic for how they ushered in an amazing wave of musical rediscovery, compiling, recontextualization, and so on. It was a very different attention economy than the one we are currently living in.

I continue to have no sympathy left for whinging about how the public are rude about AI and feel threatened by it when the biggest players in the AI space have spent years very vocally and constantly *threatening the public*

By the way eventually the original source mint shower gel stops burning after you've used it for a lengthy period of time and then you start needing to feel pain to feel anything at all and you end up using electric sanders on your balls and flicking matches at your own gonads.

Have a nice day.

The group sound very, very bored of what they're doing across this album. Tracks 6-10 raise the energy a smidge, as does War Wit Us at track 16. I had to keep going with this one, as I'm not likely to be coming back to it.

As a movie soundtrack, mildly curious if there's a narrative aspect.

Today in 2001 rap records, I've got Choices: The Album by Three 6 Mafia.

This starts off pretty bad, let's see how it goes...

All over my FB people talking about their bad experiences with shingles vax and dissuading each other from getting it! We need to give people real info on how to mitigate the symtoms caused by vaccines because vaccines are always better than meeting a virus unprepared. Yet drs aren't coaching ppl

I’m not a Green member but I think it’s a good thing to have a figure in mainstream politics able to openly ask stuff like β€œcan America be trusted as a security partner?” β€œIs drug prohibition actually working?” and trying to work out what to do about rent. These are in fact β€˜grown up’ questions!

Step one, you have to get a copyright. It isn't as bad as you think. After that, since it's moving images or recorded sound it ends up at the Library of Congress Packard Campus for Audio-Visual Conservation where someone like me gets to take care of it.

Maybe it's a "light entertainment used to be for families, rather than nerds and pensioners" thing that makes Christmas a bad fit for new artists to go big with, or to sound at all natural doing? Counting BublΓ© in the latter clause there, sorry bro ❄️

08.12.2025 09:14 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

What made Christmas an uncommonly popular topic of interest to artists back then? And was it a fad with coincidentally rich staying power for its results? Or was it something more intentional on the part of the artists or the industry?

08.12.2025 09:03 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Given artists in pre-'60s genres like swing gave us a recognisable subset of Christmas songs, that remain popular to this day, while lots of genres since don't have a recognisable tendency to popularise new ones – what's up with that?

So I wouldn't nominate Kicking Cars for 2001. I do think there's a case to be made for year of completion rather than year of release. All work recorded in parallel for a fair comparison. Except, define 'completion' for a recording. Mixing is an artform too... I'm rambling 😳

Makes me think about if my brother got on a label, who put out more than the fifty or so copies currently pressed of his debut solo album... Actually, that happened IRL with Panchiko. I'd definitely give 2000 for Panchiko's D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, but the followup didn't see the light of day 'til 2016.

08.12.2025 06:47 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm considering it purely as a release, of course. Even though I know the game is about the conversation starter aspect (which carries a heavy cultural layer of analysis), I think we get there best through solid technicals. So I'm sticking with "barely released to the public *is* a public release."
