Why is this thinking not the norm?

I’ll never understand the logic of “hey, I had it bad, so you should too.” How is it rational to impose suffering on others just because you also had a (supposed) rough childhood? Compassionate people seek to end the suffering they endured, not spread it.

Is it a thing that people with ADHD don’t have bucket lists? And is it because we are so busy living/surviving the current moment that we don’t have the energy to think about what we might want to be doing five years from now? Or is this just a me thing?
