Willard Peterson's career focused on the study of Chinese history in the second half of the second millennium, focusing on the Ming 明 and Qing 清 empires. He joined Princeton University after a few years at Dartmouth College.

in 2017, Dr Harrison-Hall won the Book Prize Specialist Publication Accolade for her co-editing of "Ming China: Courts and Contacts 1400-1450", along with Craig Clunas and Yu-ping Luk. The book was described as "An outstanding connective history in pursuit of China's historical difference"

Both scholars have made incredible contribution to the research of premodern Chinese art and history, and its presentation to a non-specialized audience.

Wang Tao is at the Art Institute of Chicago, where among others, he curates exhibitions on Chinese art.
