There are other non-flammable buffers almost as good at DNA preservation which are not deemed a health and safety risk.

Great introduction to one of my favorite study organisms, and to promote our recent study into how their unusual genetics affects patterns of molecular evolution.

It's finally out! This paper took quite a while but I'm so excited to share now! For anyone who studies sex chromosomes, take note: we found a rare "slower X"! (dN/dS_X < dN/dS_Autos) πŸ‘€

Faster adaptation but slower divergence of X chromosomes under paternal genome elimination - Nature Communications X chromosomes evolve faster than autosomes, but confounding factors make this a difficult phenomenon to study. Utilising the unusual sex determination system of Sciaridae flies, this study finds a slo...

Anyone know if there is research on how post-Christmas grant deadlines disadvantage scientists with caring responsibilities? Or just mental health in general, due to not being able to switch off during this period? Yes I am reaching peak burnout and so done juggling!
