I’m pretty okay for now - but holy shit, reading these other stories makes me so sad. Soooo many people just not getting adequate care & the staggering amount of insurance companies refusing to pay for the proper meds. It’s been eye opening.

Arrrgggg! That’s how my Psoriatric Arthritis was diagnosed (amongst other things), but the hallmark bone erosion in the top joints in the fingers & in the toes. I had been going in for 5 years complaining of foot pain & swelling in two toes. They just told me to buy Hokas. 🙄

That’s awful. My husband’s hand surgeon said they can do a lot of little conservative things like steroid shots, a tendon release surgery - and eventually he’ll probably need another surgery, but it has helped him regain a lot of use of his hands, like gripping & making a fist.

Well, I did live on The Strand for a lot of years, and then in The Village & I loved our time there.

I cannot count the number of times I’ve driven up & down the Strand.

That anti-inflammatory diet is important - I have an entire list of foods that I should avoid. Part of the diagnosis were the X-rays & my CRP (inflammation) is insanely high.

So far, it’s mild - but apparently it can flare & progress quite quickly. So, a plan is needed.

My husband & son have that, and my husband has had surgery on both hands already (tendon release), but it’s progressive. He has an appointment with his wonderful hand surgeon & I’ll have him ask her about radiation therapy. Our son’s manifested early, on the tops of his knuckles.

I hadn’t either & it’s hard to diagnose until it actually shows up on the x-ray. Took them about 4 years to finally figure it out. So far, it’s mostly stiffness when I’m still too long in one position, but motion is lotion!

Reading the forums is depressing, people getting on a biologic & it turning their health around - and then their insurance refusing to pay for it any more. Or losing their full-time job to the disease & losing their insurance & being left with no options. 😞

I have to “fail” the $5 medication (which even the doctor admitted helps nobody), then see if I can get my insurance to pay for a biologic. I’m in the beginning stages, but it’s progressive if you don’t address it. 🫩

This Administration is utilizing the old, “Don’t ask for permission - beg forgiveness“ trick.

A shitty way of doing whatever shitty thing you want to do - and likely not facing a real consequence later & you’ve done what you’ve set out to do.

So, they can’t afford their meds that will slow the progression of the disease, until it gets to a point where they can’t do their jobs - and then they spend years trying to get disability just to survive. It makes absolutely no sense.

The healthcare system in this country is so broken.

The “good” meds are insanely expensive up to 9K per month, & the forums are less about what to do for the actual disease, but how their insurance won’t pay & they can’t get help. 2/3
