women's franchise in the UK. My work examines the largest suffrage organisation, the National Union of Women's Suffrage Societies, who are rarely mentioned or represented in these contexts. There is so much more to do to shift wider understanding from this one dimensional militant-only perspective.

Okay, this is obviously lovely in lots of ways. However, the homogenisation of the British suffrage movement to only include the WSPU and their colours does an unacceptable disservice to the diverse and hugely significant contribution the many suffrage organisations who fought for (cont.)

Recovering the Voices of West Cork in the American Civil War

I'm speaking in Clonakilty Thursday, a deep dive on what American Civil War pensions tell us about Irish life and emigration, using letters from 4 families. In advance, I've just uploaded my last talk there, on the impact of the Civil War on West Cork: www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRLC...

Happy 10th birthday to Country Soul. Still proud of it. Grateful that it's changed my life in the ways it has. Very glad that it's resonated with folks over the years. A lot's happened since that's changed this story and how I think about it. At least one new chapter to be written. Maybe someday.
