since the U.S. and Israeli strikes are framed as "targeted operations against terrorist infrastructure," rather than a full-scale invasion, the Kremlin interprets this as a case that does not fall under the collective defense provisions.

At some point you wonder not just if insiders using information to place bets, but maybe also reshaping their advice to make those bets profitable.

Russian ideologist Dugin is worried about the regime in Russia after the Iran operation began. If Iran falls, Russia is next, he says.

What will the Iranian attack mean for drone warfare in Ukraine? I assume less available for export, but not sure how quickly that happens and is noticed.

"Years ago, we tore up a nuclear peace deal w/Iran.
Months ago, we bombed Iran
& "obliterated" their nuke capabilities.
And now, we might just have to go to war with Iran
bc of their nuke capabilities."

There is a definition of preemption in international law and it requires a lot of conditions that are very obviously not met! This is a formal term! You can’t just say your war of choice is preemptive because you started first!

You sound like an unhinged person if you in plain words describe what’s happening, but the Trump admin demanded Anthropic’s AI be able to kill things for it w/out human approval and also do mass surveillance.

Anthropic said no, and now the admin is trying to destroy the company in retaliation.

β€œThis might be stupid because you work full time and have two young kids, but do you have any hobbies?”. The laugh I laughed. Juggling 5+ intersecting inputs for child 1 at present (school, OOSH, allied health), averaging 2 hours appointments on top of school, drop-offs etc. My hobby is admin.

(Bloomberg) --Β The global smartphone market will contract 12.9% in 2026 because of the unprecedented memory chip shortage, marking β€œa crisis like no other,” according to researcher IDC.
The new forecast, a dramatic revision down fromΒ earlier estimates, gives the latest accounting of the ongoingΒ memory crunchΒ that’s affecting every corner of the electronics industry. The demand for advanced memory to power artificial intelligence tasks has drained global supply until well into next year and now jeopardizes the business model of many smartphone makers.
IDC now sees roughly 1.1 billion mobile shipments in 2026, down from 1.26 billion the prior year and erasing years of gradual gains. Smartphone manufacturers are adapting to the elevated component costs by reining in specifications, eliminating unprofitable entry-level models and pushing consumers to buy more premium devices.
β€œThe tariffs and pandemic crisis seem a joke compared to this,” said IDC Senior Research DirectorΒ Nabila Popal. β€œThe smartphone market will witness a seismic shift by the time this crisis is over β€” in size, average selling prices and competitive landscape. We don’t expect the situation to ease up until mid-2027, at least.”

Argh, I remember hearing or reading an analysis (circa 2019 maybe?) that Ukraine was likely to be uniquely good at developing drone warfare partially due to experience with cyber warfare via GRU and strong manufacturing base. Sandstorm maybe?

They won't start with banning birth control. First they'll lie about it. Then dictate who can prescribe it, use it, fund it, in what forms, and for how long. Suddenly, your doctor won't call you back. I know this is what they'll do because it's what they're doing to transgender healthcare right now.

Everybody knows (or should know by now) that sex work is real work. But one thing a lot of people don’t realize is how many people and families rely on it. By some counts, there are more women doing sex work in the US than there are women cashiers in the US.

trump is calling for banning congressional stock trading, but he leaves out the key detail: the reason there's a standstill right now is democrats want it to apply to trump and the white house, but trump issued a veto threat over that.

There are now 12 U.S. warships in the Middle East. This does not account for the Ford Carrier and its support ships, which have not entered the U.S. Central Command area.

There are now 12 US warships in the Middle East, and the Ford carrier strike group and two additional destroyers are nearby to the north in the Mediterranean.

Such massive US military buildup has not taken place since the 2003 US invasion of Iraq.

The time to prevent the thing from happening is *early*, as it is gaining steam. These things always start small, with efforts to weaken the norms against discrimination, with casual, unreflective slurs. They start with wedge policies (not gays, just gay adoption! not trans, just sports!).

Your regular reminder that Palantir started out as a way to expose sex workers to police violence, then expanded to allow cops to spy on anyone they pointed at while barfing out the word "gang".

Fascists *created* Palantir, but useful idiots approved of everything done to grow it.
